birthday present
for my birthday 3 weeks ago, i asked paul for this birthday present:
Sally Raffia and Leather-Trim Logo Wedge Pumps
Enlivened by contrasting leather trim and a designer emblem, woven raffia adds a touch of texture to this classic wedge
.
- Stacked wooden wedge, 2½" (65mm)
- Raffia and leather upper
- Leather lining
- Rubber sole
- Padded insole
i didn't order it right away because we were going to palm springs and there was a tory burch outlet over there. i was hoping to find a pair of shoes that i liked for a cheaper price but there wasn't a lot to choose from. i ordered this last week and it arrived yesterday in beautifully wrapped package!
They are very comfortable and cute! the perfect summer shoe!

merry christmas! happy valentine's day!
christmas gift - solid to check scarf
(the solid part of the one that i got is in pink, or raspberry sorbet as the maker calls it)
a scarf like this has been on my wishlist forever!
valentine's gift - nylon shopper in plum
thanks beb! muwah!
we didn't go to the outlet store during christmas so paul never had the chance to buy the gift i wanted. despite the west-bound lanes of the bay bridge closing for the weekend, we went to vacaville and he got me these. well, he allowed me to get these. =D
i love them both! paul and i have made a pact to wait and save up for the things we really want and not settle for 'pwede na'. we end up spending more kasi after we bought the 'pwede na', we still sit there and dream of the one we really want tapos mapapabili ulit later on. i really waited for that scarf...the bag was just a bonus! perfect for everyday and for traveling. weakness ko na yata ang pagbili ng bag =(. iingatan ko nalang at papamana ko kay michelle pag dalaga na sya. hehe (palusot)
thank you burberry outlet for having an awesome sale for the president's day weekend!

outlast
i have tried many different kinds of lipstick that lasts all day long but i have not had much luck finding the perfect one.
after some research...i think i found me a keeper in Cover Girl's Outlast All Day Lip Color. i put some on this morning before heading out the door and 1 cup of coffee + lunch 6 hours later, i still have lipstick on! i had to re-apply the moisturizing top coat 3 times already, but it's like regular chapstick which i reapply constantly anyway. it works! i am wearing plum right now, but i might experiment with other colors. at under $10 for the lipstick...this is a steal!!!
i tried Chantecaille's Hydra Chic Lipstick before but it came off after just 1 cup of coffee. it's extremely expensive, too! i must have gone through that 1 tube of lipstick in 1 month.

make up to wake me up!
when i'm out running errands, i don't usually care what i look like. my friends and my husband get slightly embarrassed because sometimes i go to the supermarket looking like a homeless person. i go in whatever clothes i'm wearing and just throw a coat over it, with messy hair to top it all off. earlier this week, i was dropping michelle off to school when my mom said, 'is that what you're wearing?' i was wearing a t-shirt and my ultra comfy black pajamas that have been ruined in spots by bleach...so i have these blotches of white/gray/red thing on my right pajama leg. i shrugged and said, 'yeah, i'm only dropping her off, i'm not staying there.' even my mom disapproves of what i wear!
i go to work without make-up or hardly any and i must admit, i don't pick the best clothes for work either. i often find myself pressed for time in the morning so i don't always have time to put on make up. when one of our managers got married, paul and i went and that was the first time my co-workers saw me with a full face of make up...i received a lot of complements that night. putting the make up on didn't take me a long time and i do like to put on make up sometimes, but i just don't like to do it everyday.
BUT...
i was reading a book on monday night on how to present yourself well and it touches briefly on looking presentable. gosh! i so needed that one! i wont go into detail about what it said...let's just say that since tuesday, i go to work looking presentable. i also avoid leaving the house looking like a homeless person when i'm running my errands. i remind myself, 'if any of your ex boyfriends and their wives saw you looking like that, they'll have plenty to talk about after you leave.' i don't want that to happen. =D
i think what got me all excited too is getting some new make up from sephora last weekend. champoo, my make up artist friend, recommended i try NARS liquid foundation and since my old foundation had ran out, i decided to give it a try and i love it!

beauty pageants and other girley stuff
are beauty pageants still relevant?
that was the question (i think) during last night's bb. pilipinas pageant. my question is, when have they actually been relevant?
don't get me wrong. i love watching beauty pageants and envying each contestant because all of them are prettier and sexier than me. i always cheer for ms. philippines (and ms. usa) in international pageants. but like many things in this world, we don't really need them but they provide us with entertainment and they do help out with charities and other causes...beauty with a cause is what they say, right?
-----
on the subject of things we CAN live without, i got a pedicure today. hindi na mukhang paa ng magsasaka ang mga paa ko.
i can live without getting a pedicure...but that means very ugly feet.
-----
i've switched my powder to NARS which was recommended my make up artist friend, charmagne. i like it! i've also started using a primer to help make the make up last longer. during the work week, i hardly have time to get up to eat lunch or use the bathroom, let alone retouch my make up, so hopefully the primer does what its supposed to do. i'm also sticking to a good skincare regimen to fight aging. iwas wrinkles!

there are some things i just don't get
has anyone else seen the show on tlc about women not knowing they are pregnant? the show is aptly called, 'i did not know i was pregnant!'
the first time i saw this show, i said to paul, 'that's a buncha crap! i KNEW i was pregnant 1 week into conception. 1 week. how can you go through 9 months and say you didn't know you're pregnant. that's bull____!' (yes, i really said that and i don't really use that kind of language.)
how can you not know??? seriously?! a woman's body goes through a gazillion changes during pregnancy...how can you not know!?!?!??!
then i read this article on sfgate about a woman who did not know she was pregnant. again, whaaaaa? how????? how big can one woman be that she does not show at all?! they should name the show...you know you're too BIG when you can't even tell if you're pregnant or not. (and yes i can say this because i am not exactly what one would call 'pettite'!)

monday nanaman bukas...i should:
- wake up early (so i am not rushing to get out of the house).
- plan what to wear to work tomorrow (so i don't end up looking like i just grabbed whatever from my closet).
- take a multivitamin (maybe it will help me not feel so lethargic after my day at work).
- watch what i eat (whole grain, more fruits and vegetables).
- get on the elliptical (joke ba ito?).

things i currently can't live without
inspired by lai's 'favorite things', here are some of the things i can't live without:
allergy medicine - i would feel crappy as hell if i don't get my daily allergy medicine in the spring. sometimes, it's so bad that i have to take one in the morning and then another early in the evening so i can get by.
chapstick - my lips get really really dry. so i try to have one chapstick each in the 2 purses i use all the time and one by the bed, and one in the bathroom (so i can apply immediately after i brush my teeth)
likas papaya - yes, i use likas papaya as my soap. i don't think it has made my skin lighter but i think it's made it more even. i alternate with a bodywash so my skin doesn't get so dry.
neutrogena acne-free facial wash - this is what i use to wash my face with. i was a pimply adolescent...hindi naman acne but this helped me clear my skin so i still use it kahit na i'm waaaaay past puberty.
moisturizer - any brand by lancome for daytime use. lai would argue that it doesn't matter what kind you use but i see a difference when i use lancome. dahil recession, i buy the cheapest one they have so it doesn't hurt my wallet that much. my pm moisturizer is by garnier (super affordable!), mas intense yung moisturizing ng sa gabi and walang spf. always get a moisturizer with spf for daytime use!
bible - i have two by my bed. one of them is a combo of 2 translations (or versions) and another in a different translation. para maintindihan ko talaga. we have to get our 'soul food' everyday. otherwise, we go hungry spiritually.
tissue - for my sneezies.
bluetooth headset - because my hubby is so far away, we are on the phone a lot and this device frees my hands so i can still work while talking to him. i have a really crappy one from motorola. i would not recommend it. get a jawbone, so much better.
internet - i have very vague recollection of what i did in my spare time noong wala pang internet! sad but true!
sunglasses - i can't drive without them or i get a headache from the glare. madami din akong sunglasses but i get them at nordstrom rack and marshalls. designer brands na orig for a quarter of the price..sometimes cheaper! my 2 faves are by gucci (got it for $50, originaly $450) and michael kors (paid $25, originally around $200). who says style can't be affordable?????
caffeine - in coffee, diet soda or tea. baaaaad!
...to be continued.

rosy depths of love
Rosy Depths of Love
Is it precious
Because it is a rose,
Or is it because of me?
If you feel impassioned,
If you cannot clear your head,
Is it because of me
Or is because of love?

from Liuligongfang Glass Art in SF
Thanks beb! I absolutely love it!!!

no pain, no gain
no, i haven't started working out again. this is a different type of vanity for me.
i went to see a dermatologist from the philippines and had 'stuff' on my face cotorized and had a chemical peel. while the doctor placed a topical anesthesia, i still felt some sting and pain from the zapping off of the 'stuff'. but i hope to see clearer skin after several days.
sana effective to. sayang naman ang ibinayad at ang mild discomfort kung hindi.
